A new search engine concept called Quiki was unveiled on Good Morning America this morning. Quiki Search Engine, in its Alpha phase, is being proposed as a new wave of search engine which might be particularly helpful on a Smart Phone. When a search comes up on Quiki the top search opens up as a great montage of media. Video, pictures and a map spread out on the screen in a very eye appealing fashion. The search is narrated by a pleasant voice. Very new, very novel. The interviewer asked the Quiki rep if Google should start to worry. The Rep said, "I don't know. It is too early to tell." As for me, I don't think Google has anything to fear. In the time it took the voice to drone on about the features in the search I could have skimmed through the top 6 results on Google. Quiki may become valuable for people who want to find the right  hotel or a resort. As for people who are sorting through search results to find facts on detailed or technical topics Quiki will never beat Google.

A person who ignores some of the basic rules of Search Engine Optimization is dooming his/her site to a dead end. No one who puts a good deal of time or money into a website wants that site to end up in a dead end. However, many merchants are seeing their website descend into a Search Engine Optimization Dead End; a Black Hole; a pit of Oblivion.  I’m not saying that just because I adore Search Engine Optimization. Nor am I a philosopher who believes or dreams that lack of basic SEO is going to sink a website. I am a website designer who has seen this take place first hand.

I will give you the basics of the most recent example which I have seen while keeping back enough to guard the identity of the business person involved. This person needed a new website for  youth oriented business. A friend asked me if I was interested in doing this site at a fairly decent rate due to the fact that it was for a worthy cause.  I spoke to the merchant and she elected to take another approach. Using a very popular Flash Development tool which is included in the Control Panel of some Hosting Services she built a basically decent looking website. Click to continue »
