Valid code?
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) sets the standards for HTML code and how it is
uesd in web pages. It is entirely possible to make a page that looks ok without
using valid HTML code. This is important because browser software is changing and
the W3C is trying to bring things together to a universal form. What may be supported
in browsers today may not be tomorrow. Neat valid code represents a worker who has
taken the time to be update and prefessional. Isn't that what you want?
Check work in different browsers?
Some browsers do not interpret code in the same way others do. A website was turned over to me that looked great in Internet Explorer 7 but
looked aweful in FireFox. Needless to say, FireFox is an up and coming browser; a very
important one. If the designer does not check in different browsers, a large part of
you audience may see a mess.
Give attention to page load times?
Nice graphics look good but too many will cause a page to load slowly. People are not very patient with slow pages now that so many
have fast Internet connections. You are in trouble if your page takes too long to load.
Live by copyright laws? This one speaks for itself.
Search Engine Optmization?
Several key pieces of information must be on a web site in order for it to get good search engine placement. Some of these requirements
have not been noticed by a number of web designers. I can cite having local business
people ask me about optimization after getting a site from a large web design
corporation of reputation. Optimization is considered the last step in finishing a web site
with Gregswebs. Excellent software is used here to insure that, at least when I turn your
site over, at that point it is optimized for better search engine placement.
